Weeks 13, 14, & 15: 609, 451, and 276 Interactions…

by on Apr.26, 2010, under News

The 1,000 Interaction Challenge has been a very interesting promotion since day 1. In our quest to give away free Parkour clothing we’ve seen interaction totals on our Facebook page that were high and low. The past three weeks have demonstrated this fluctuation rather well with some of the largest varying interaction totals to date. Below are the totals for weeks 13, 14, and 15.

  • Week 13: 609
  • Week 14: 451
  • Week 15: 276

What we have learned over the past 15 weeks is that some content we share lends itself better to actual interactions (“Likes” and comments) compared to other content. With that in mind we’ve also learned that our weekly interaction total is an inaccurate estimation of the influence our posts have had on our fans. It turns out that even though only 276 interactions took place in week 15, we had more than 1,500 people visit to our page in that time! The contrast is shown: what seemed like a small number of interactions in week 15 was actually a very successful week because of how many people were shown, introduced, and learned about Parkour through the Take Flight Facebook page.

As the Take Flight Facebook page continues to grow we’ll continue to provide Parkour videos, content, news, and inspirational quotes for all of our fans and followers. With thousands of people watching the videos we post every month, and reading about Parkour because of the content we share, we couldn’t be prouder than to have such interactions totals, even if they vary widely from week to week.

UPS Shipping Now Offered

by on Feb.26, 2010, under For Our Customers

Since Day 1 we have offered integrated shipping to over 190 countries through the Take Flight store. The process has been simple: you decide what Parkour clothing, gear, posters, DVDs etc. you want, add them to your cart, type in your address, and select your shipping option (First Class, Priority, Next Day etc). We then package your order and ship it within 24 hours. Our shipping carrier since the beginning has always exclusively been the United States Postal Service (USPS). What we found though, was that with large orders USPS wasn’t the cheapest carrier.

Once we realized that USPS wasn’t always the cheapest carrier we got right to work to add another shipping option to our internationally accessible online store. We made some calls, purchased the proper equipment, and made the right website adjustments so that now, in addition to USPS shipping, we also offer shipping from the United Parcel Service (also known as UPS).

With UPS as an additional shipping carrier for Take Flight products, there are now even more shipping options for you to choose from. Not only do you get to choose how soon you receive your Parkour clothing/gear , you also get to choose who brings the package to your doorstep. We have not added this feature to our site because it’s easier for us. In fact adding this feature has been just the opposite! Rather, we have added this feature to better serve our customers. By providing another carrier option that gives you one further option you can utilize to customize your experience with us, and one further option you can use to save you money.

New Site Navigation Bar

by on Feb.24, 2010, under For Our Customers, News

We have recently introduced a new navigation bar on our site! This implementation has been a few months in the making and is predicated on our Parkour apparel line, our growing selection of Parkour gear, our athlete sponsorships, our partners, and the Take Flight social network.

Previously we had four menu choices for our menu. One for the home page, one for apparel, one for the About Us page, and one for our Contact page. With a wider variety of products, a growing number of sponsored athletes, and a constantly growing site, a more comprehensive navigation bar was a must.

Our new navigation bar is now in place and it has 6 main categories which we feel better represent the totality of our site. These categories include Home, David Belle, Apparel, Gear, Athletes, and Contact. Each of these categories (minus the Home option) has further drop-down options that will give you quick easy access to the subcategories on our site as well as links to outside sources such as the Take Flight Facebook Fan Page and David Belle’s official website.

We hope this new navigation bar provides one more resource to help you navigate the Take Flight site. For us it was months in the making, but still only a small reflection of our dedication to our customers and fans and our continued pursuit of constantly improving our site and products.

What is Parkour? Video with Forrest

by on Mar.22, 2008, under Francois 'Forrest' Mahop, Videos

This is one of the best and most concise videos we have ever seen that describes what Parkour is. The Tracer speaking is named Forrest. He is a Parkour instructor in London for Parkour Generations, and he is one of the world’s foremost authorities on the sport. Since some of his speech is hard to understand we have transcribe the clip below.

_______________________________________
“My name is Forrest. I come from France and sport is my passion. I went to university for four years and graduated as a physical coach. Now I live in London and I teach Parkour.

Parkour is an art of movement, a physical discipline but utilize this on your body and your mind

Parkour is not just a physical challenges, it allows you to discover yourself very deeply. I live to enjoy myself and to understand myself

Young people they told me, “But why you do this,” because it’s my passion. I like that.

I first began to learn about Parkour from Stepahen Vigroux, one of the best in the world. He taught me how to move, and how I could push my body farther than I had ever imagined.

Parkour is demanding and very complex sport where you work all the parts of your body. You have to control your abilities, the key is your mind. But most importantly you have to control your fear.

It’s necessary for you to be relaxed, relaxed.

I watched the other guys and they told me, “Oh, but it is very unusual, it’s very amazing”…
But I believe that I couldn’t do it. But just with practice, practice, practice. Now I love it.

There are no secrets to improving your skill in Parkour, other than hard training. Setting yourself goals and working towards them.

When I come in the new area, in new environment, I can visualize myself doing oh I can do this this this this this this this this. Because of that a few minutes later I be able to do physically. I think the creativity is coming with the level. I train up to 4 hours a day five days a week varying the type of work from physical conditioning to specific Parkour techniques. You can always improve

Parkour is competitive, but not against someone else. The first and most important competition in Parkour is with yourself.

For me the city is a playground. You have to see it through the eyes of a child.

Everybody can do Parkour, everybody if women, man, kids, old people. Everybody can do Parkour. You have to find your own way of doing Parkour. But you know for example, doing just walking on the rails, everybody can do it. It’s not necessary to be strong. It’s necessary to have a good balance. Just balance. And everybody can do it. So after that it just depends, what are you looking for, what do you want to do with Parkour or what do you goals do you want to reach that try to find your own way and be in joy and that’s it.

I hope people will see Parkour as a positive activity and more people will start practicing it in a safe and responsible way.”
