Take Flight

We held an End of the World Design Contest. The mission was simple: find the Flight Man in the Maya Calendar, or incorporate him into it.

So, so, so many great entries were made that we couldn’t decide who the winner was! So we posted the top five on Facebook and let the fans decide. A clear winner emerged, and it was William Zhuang.

Below is William Zhang’s winning Maya Calendar. Let’s just say that according to Flight Man was really good friends with the Mayans :-) Or as one fan put it, “The Flight Man saved the world!!”

This was William Zhuang’s winning entry for the Flight Man End of the World Design Contest. The Mayan’s knew what they were doing :-)

We’ve decided to hold a little design contest to celebrate the end of the world. The winner gets a Parkour Hoodie of their choice! Here are the details:

• Today is the long awaited “End of the World” 21^st of December. This date is based on the Mayan calendar (example picture below)
• We are challenging you to integrate the Flight Man into the Mayan calendar Or as we say, “find the Flight Man in the Mayan calendar.” We’re pretty sure he is there if you look :)
• Find a photo/image of the Mayan calendar and use that as a base to edit in/design in/photoshop in the Flight Man. Any image of the Mayan Calendar will work as a base, but we recommend something professional and clear. We want it to look real! The image below is a good example.
• Post your finished design on our Facebook wall!!
• Deadline is December 28^th! We’ll announce the winner on our Facebook on the 29^th.

It’s that time of year again. Halloween is approaching and that means the Take Flight Pumpkin Carving Contest is here! Inspired by the first fan pumpkin submission in 2010, every year for Halloween we now have a TF pumpkin carving contest, and with this post the 2012 contest is on.

This year it works like this:

• Carve a pumpkin and make it say “Take Flight” and/or have the Flight Man logo in it! Adding Traceurs in flight, “Parkour”, or other things are welcomed too. Be creative!
• Post a picture of your pumpkin on our Facebook wall for us to see –> www.facebook.com/takeflightapparel
• We will look at the all the pumpkins and reward our 5 favorites with $25 TF Gift Certificates good for anything in our store.
• The top 3 winners get a $25 gift card AND a Zombie Apocalypse Tee!
• Due date for entry: October 31, 2012 (Halloween)

*Note: If there are lots of submissions we’ll up the number of gift certificates.

This year is your year! Show your fan support this Halloween by carving a pumpkin and displaying Parkour and Take Flight to your neighborhood. In doing so you’;; not only spread the Parkour love, but you might win some great Parkour gear too. We look forward to seeing what you got :-)

We are on the verge of launching the biggest sweepstakes that has ever swept the Parkour community. It is called The Parkour Dream Trip Sweepstakes, and the grand prize is an all expense paid week long trip for 4 to the Parkour birthplace Lisses, France this summer 2012 (winner can also choose to go in 2013 if they prefer). In addition, if the scheduling works out, the grand prize winners will spend a day training with the founder of Parkour, David Belle.

Presented here by Take Flight founder Adam Dunlap, this contest is more than just about a big prize. It’s about bringing energy, synergy, and togetherness to the Parkour community. So in addition to the grand prize dream trip, we will also be giving away clothing, signed Parkour merchandise, cash prizes, and video cameras. It is going to be huge!

But we haven’t launch the sweepstakes yet. And what do we need in order to launch this sweepstakes? We need the support of the Parkour community! But it’s really simply. We’re establishing what we hope to be a long lasting tradition: Tuesday & Friday Giveaways.

Since we started, we’ve always given away Parkour clothing through our Facebook page. But now we are going to do it on a very specific and planned basis so our fans don’t miss a thing.

From now on, every Tuesday and Friday night between 6pm-9pm PST we will be doing a giveaway on our Facebook page. Entering the giveaways are as simple as commenting, liking, and/or sharing the giveaways posts we make! We are back with another big contest for all our fans! This month there is no excuse not to enter because we are doing a photo contest! Below are the rules and regulations** (aka, the details of how you can win some awesome prizes just for loving Parkour):

Details

• Take a picture (or pictures) of you doing Parkour while wearing Take Flight clothing (or you can be posing. Completely up to you).
• Feel free to edit the picture in any way you like, add effects, add wording, or whatever you want to make the photo stand out.
• Give your picture a title, and name the picture file with your name and title (e.g. john-smith-taking-precision-seriously.jpg).
• Send all your entries to us at contest@takeflightapparel.com. (Multiple pictures are welcome, but there is a max of five entries per person.)
• All entries are due by 11:59pm on Sunday, February 12^th.
• We will narrow the entries down to the top 25 and create a contest specific photo album on the Take Flight Facebook page.
• We will select and announce the winners on this blog on Thursday February 23^rd.

How We Pick a Winner (this is going to be really, really hard we already know)

• We will look all the entries and take into account picture quality, creativity, showcasing of Parkour, showcasing of Take Flight clothing, and over all impression + all the little things. Details matter! (please remember that judging photographs is subjective. We will remain absolutely neutral, in order to provide the fairest contest possible, but it is possible that not everyone will agree with the judges decisions.)
• Bonus points and tie breaks will be given/awarded based on fan interaction on each photo in the finalist album. The most likes and the more positive comments tip the scales in that photo’s favor.*

*Negative comments will not count against a photo. We prefer to be supportive of everyone so for future references if you don’t feel like leaving a good comment then just don’t comment : )

• Keep edits to 2:00 minutes or less (making it 2:00 minutes is not required and it will not get you bonus points. It’s about quality not quantity). Make the video as dynamic as possible. Think about it as a demo of sorts but with the holiday twist (after all, this is a holiday video challenge).
• When you are completely finished with the edit add the TF intro and outro to the video (you can download these below). Don’t worry about sound editing or video fading for this part. Just drop them in on either side of your video.
• When you finish making the video upload the video to YouTube and title it “Take Flight Holiday Video Contest | [Your Name]”.
• Send a link to the video to us contest@takeflightapparel.com.
• All entries are due by December 15^th.
• We will decide the winner and send the gift card on the 16^th.

• EXTRA BONUS POINTS if you can fit in some sort of holiday theme whether via the music, the imagery, snow, just saying “Happy Holidays” at the end, or any other type of festive feel in some way or another.
• If there isn’t a clear winner we’ll pick more than one (last month we had 3 runner ups that all got gift certificates)
• Winner gets their videos uploaded to the TF YouTube and gets a $100 TF Gift Card. Runners up get their videos featured and get $25 gift cards.

Lastly….

The October Monthly Challenge is here!

The challenge this month is to make a Parkour video to the song Opposite of Adults by Chiddy Bang.

Details

• Make an edit of you and/or your friends doing Parkour, and make Opposite of Adults by Chiddy Bang the music track. You don’t have to use new footage. Old footage of yourself is great.
• Keep edits to under 150 seconds (2 and a half minutes). Videos can be shorter too. Up to you!
• When you are completely finished with the edit add the TF intro and outro to the video (download below). Don’t worry about sound editing of video fading. Just drop them in on either side of your video.
• When you finish making the video upload the video to YouTube and send a link to us at contests@takeflightapparel.com.
• All entries are due by November 10th.
